España y Filipinas
A Painting by Juan Luna
It is a painting of two women sharing moments with each other. The Spaniard woman was drawn in with" white strong shoulders and while Filipina woman was illustrated as "grateful" or "brown-skinned". They are both wearing a dress known as traje de mestiza or " mestiza for short. Both of them have their backs shown in the painting while walking in a staircase.
For me, this painting portrays anti-racism and about we should not divide for the color of our skin, and it possesses and vague representation of how we should not be isolated to each other by a form an image that will make us blindly realizes what is actually happening in the world and our society, there's so little things that would mean a lot especially when you exchange your shoes to the other side.
From my impression, this painting portrays a lot of "mystery" which resides from the Spaniard woman who is pointing to the light which I call Mystery because we never know what we'll have in front, is it a way or an obstacle?. This Painting greatly portrays that explanation of how people should not be alone must be with each other. I was touched, and shocked by how beautifully crafted this painting is.
